In Japan (it's looney but cool here) at the moment, I'll be moving back to the U.S. soon.

I'm just wondering where good solid broadband is, any carriers out there that have good bandwidth and decent upstream?

I'm pretty open to any part of the US, but of course I have my preference for the west coast or SW

I'd think things like weather, employment opportunities, housing costs, etc... would have a little more importance.

I would rather pay $5/month for a webhost than worry about what city has the best broadband.

Regarding the OP, I heard Detroit has some of the fastest upstream speeds in the U.S.

of course - broadband is not a real deciding factor....I have about 8 places that I am looking at, but I just want to know where good service is - it might help me focus in on employment oppertunities and growth in field services.

I've been out of the states for awhile, so I am trying to get a handle on what's shaking

Cable modems normally have crap for upload so I'd go with a pro series DSL provider if you're looking for home.

Broadband carriers (just like cell phone) vary depending on geographical region.

First you should find a home based on weather/employment/schools THEN worry about broadband availability.

Your deciding factor gets to be where the fastest broadband is?! I'd kill (er...do something out of the ordinary but maybe not so drastic; added for hyperbole) for that kind of flexibility.
