does anyone know of software that is free that cna take say a partition on one hard drive, and move it onto another hard drive. like, i have winxp pro installed righ tnow. say i buy a newer faster bigger hard drive, and i dont wanna reinstall everything. Is there software that would let me just hook up the new drive to my other IDE channel and would copy everything over.

i know norton ghost can do it, but i want something that is free.

Use the startup disk to boot the computer and when you are at the A:\
prompt type sys c: and press Enter. The required boot information will
be copied to the new disk and you have a working copy of the old hard
disk.

often times hard disk manufacturing companies release free cloning software. for example, i am fairly sure maxtor offers a cloning thing in their maxblast bootdisk. i could be wrong, but check it out.
