I've got to move my 65" HDTV to my new apartment that's just down the street, and I need some pointers. Anyone done this before?

Get lots of big friends to help you :p

EDIT: I wanted some tips when I was moving my 210lb 36" wega last year, so I searched for "moving tv" over at AVSforum. Most of the threads were about big projection tvs so it didn't help me much, but it would be a good place to look for you.

What brand? Mits 65" tv's can be seperated in the middle. You can take the screen/mirror off of the base. It makes it MUCH easier to transport. Just make sure you cover the base with a sheet or something if you are going to moving it around outside so stuff doesn't get on the CRT's.

is it on casters?

Then stairs are the only hard part and with 4 people it will be very doable. (works at Cicuit City Warehouse)

I have the same tv. As previously stated, take it apart in the middle and its much easier to move.

1. call friends
2. trick them into helping you move your tv in exchange for beer
3. don't buy them beer
4. ???

RPTV's are quite light, you shouldn't have much trouble (particularly if it separates).

Moving a large Wega (or any other large/flat CRT TV) can be a real bitch, I dropped my old 27" once. Forgot how face heavy it was, lifted it by the handles & it did a nose dive onto the carpet. People watching said my face went ghost white.

No harm done though (thankfully).

my 280 pound 61inch Toshiba 61inch rear projection has casters on it. Perhaps your new TV has casters too?

As far as stairs go ... it's possible to go up/down stairs with 3 adults, however, you would be best off with at least 4 people.

I saw or heard this mentioned somewhere else recently. Does this really work?
From a quick glance, it appears it would be tough to lower it and off the "dolly" when you're ready to let it go... but I don't know how the system actually works.
