I had a heck of a time getting my mods for Fallout 3 just right. I want to move it from its original location to my velociraptor drive, and I understand I need to re-install it.

My question is, can I back up my mods by making a copy of the 'Data Files' directory and restoring it to the new location after re-install? Thanks for any help.

i have no knowledge of fallout 3 modding, but i dont see why not... unless there is something other than files involved in the mods?

Yeah, I think it just involves having the files there. Just wanted to be sure, in case a new install with windows live would somehow have an effect.

If the files in that folder somehow link to the other folders, then it might not work as it will be looking on the wrong drive letter.

Can't you figure out all the files you actually changed?

It will most likely work. However, I just patched the game where it was already installed and now I can't use the mouse and the program stops working. Stay tuned.

install to new drive, copy original installation and paste to the new destination, do not overwrite any new files, you should be all set

There ya go. That'd be the safest bet.

Install Directory\Data\all the esps, textures folders, etc are what you need. Except for Fallout3.esm and the .bsa files.

I got it. The newest patch borked the game so I re-installed and pasted the Data folder in there. No issues yet.

Doubt the patch borked the game. The mods probably don't work with the new version, so your old mods probably are screwing things up.

Either the mods don't work with the patch (which I have not heard confirmed) or the patch borked it. I don't know which, all I know is it worked like a charm before the 1.1 patch. I was afraid that the coming DLC would screw with my mods, maybe they will.
