In just a couple of days we'll be moving to a new apartment and I'd like to use that opportunity to redo my home network.
The old situation:
- Cable modem (5mbit/1mbit internet) hooked up to a Linksys WRT54GC (for a wireless G netwerk).
- Mediacenter (windows 7 pc) next to the router connected through cable.
- 2 laptops (1 macbook, 1 windows-based) connected wirelessly.
- printer connected to macbook, no universal storage
The new situation (or what I would like it to be):
- The apartment has 30mbit/30mbit internet (no modem required).
- Because of the two floors and the much faster internet connection, I'd like to go entirely wireless (meaning I'm gonna need a better/faster router - preferably one that can stream HD content)
- Able to connect my printer (Brother printer) to the router.
- Some kind of centralized storage for backup purposes and perhaps streaming to a new and hopefully much smaller dedicated mediacenter.
Taking all this, I'd figured that I should be looking for a good wireless N - router with 1 or 2 USB ports to hook up my printer. Furthermore a NAS that can be connect to the router through USB or LAN cable. And a new wireless mediaplayer. I was hoping that those more experienced with this kind of (simple) networking could point me towards the kind of products I should be looking at.
I've been reading good things about the Linksys/Cisco E3000 router and before that I was looking at the Asus RT-N16 router. Unfortunately I have no experience with NAS.
I'd greatly appreciate any advice. Thx
