So I am moving from San Diego to the bay area and planning to rent a uhaul to transport all my stuff. I might have a couple of friends come along to help me move. I'm trying to decide what's best to do with my current car. Should I tow the car with the uhaul while me and my friends sit together? Or should I just drive it separately? How difficult is towing a car with uhaul? If I do tow, I'm planning to get the flatbed tow where all 4 wheels don't touch the ground.

How much stuff are you bringing? Obviously if friends will be helping they will need a ride back to San Diego, not unless they will be allowed to bring back the Uhaul truck with them. So that's 2 vehicles of gas money on you.

If you tow the car, plan on putting gas a least 2 times and pull up the gas station correctly. Backing up will be a pain. Good luck.

Squishing your moving buddies into a uhaul doesn't sound like fun for anyone 500 miles. Drive it.

Oh.. I forgot to mention, I'll be buying my friends a plane ticket back. Will be around $200 and I have no problem paying that.

If I was your friend and you suggested we all cram into the uhaul after helping you pack up all your crap I wouldn't be your friend afterwards.

Get a CB radio and drive it. The extra car might allow for you to make great time in a Smokey & the Bandit sort of way.

Former roommate had this same question when he was moving from LA to the Bay Area. Planned to tow his Corolla with a UHaul, but they informed him that the truck he was renting wasn't large enough to tow the car. It seemed plenty big to me, but it's their truck, right? I drove the car and he bought a cheap airline ticket to fly me home.

My point is: are you sure that UHaul will allow you to tow the car?
