I'm movin to Kansas City, MO in a few weeks for a new job and I don't know anyone there. I'll probably stay at some extended housing place until I find a place. But anyway, if anyone here's from KC, are there any apts. or general areas you recommend? I figure standard of living there should be fairly lower than houston's, so I'm hoping to spend ~700-800/mo for a relatively nice place. Thanks!

Cletus' Landing has some classy trailers, fine diners too. You could check out Remington Heights as well, but they get pretty expensive, almost two mules a year.

Most anything in Overland Park / Olathe (in the KC metro area on the KS side) is pretty nice. I stayed at the Deer Creek apartments in Overland Park, real close to 435 for easy access to anywhere in the metro area. Really, with gas prices, I'd stay closer to where you work. The Northland has some really nice places by the KCI airport. The fastest growing area of town is on the KS side near the Nascar racetrack.

oh yeah, cheaper than houston

where are you working? the metro area is quite large for the population

i live 40 miles to the east of the city and commute

as long as you don't live in a slum you are ok

I forgot to add, in my opinion, KC has a lot to be desired. I lived close to Houston all my life and enjoyed being within 5 hours of several major cities (Houston, DFW, Austin, SA). KC isn't close to much, and there isn't much to do for entertainment in the city. It's also one of the worst cities for singles.

gonna be working at Cerner, so probably stay on the MO side. location wise probably best to look in north kansas city area, but i'd also like to be in a relatively younger crowd area, close to like bars, restaurants, pool halls, etc..., late nite places in general.

Haha ya, when I visited it seemed pretty dead. I've been in TX all my life though, I love it but lookin for a change of scenery, and Cerner had best offer from ones i had on table. I'm hoping my stay in KC won't be long term, few years max.

cerner is in north kansas city, that is a good area, mostly new and few slums

westport may be the area for that stuff, but you don't want to live near westport and commute to NKC

there are plenty of apartments along oak st and throughout gladstone and NKC that will be close to cerner and it is a short drive to westport down i-35/broadway

i haven't priced apartments, but before we bought our place we rented a couple of 3/4 bedroom houses in Liberty (just northeast of NKC) for $700 and $1000 per month, so a $700/$800 apartment should be quite nice

there used to be 1-2 people that posted here that worked at cerner, but i haven't talked to them in a couple of years
