Behind Enemy Lines
Mission Impossible's (somewhat related)
The Sum of All Fears
Bourne Identity's
Inside Man

Enemy of the State
Hostage

Movies I did not enjoy too much
U571

There was a recent movie with Jamie Foxx set in the Middle Eastern theatre about terrorism?

Movies to see:

Patriot Games
Clear and Present Danger
Rambo's
Three Kings
Breach

Tears of the Sun is a great flick, but very graphic and can be hard to watch. Every war movie fan should have this in their collection.

That was the first one that came to mind for me. The movie the OP is trying to think of is "The Kingdom" and it was an incredible movie. Not very action oriented through a majority of the movie, but it picks up fast at the end.

Others would be Patriot Games & Clear and Present Danger (Tom Clancy).

What about Hunt for Red October?

I wonder if these movies are on BluRay

Fuck the special forces shows. Watch "We Were Soldiers." I still can't watch that movie without getting all choked up. While like any movie, parts of it are pretty unrealistic, it's definitely one of the better ones in the genre.
I have a good friend who served in the 7th air cav during Vietnam. He says it's VERY accurate.

Very fine movie indeed. Sam Elliott gives an outstanding performance and has to be one of the baddest movie soldiers of all time.

I had typed up "We Were Soldiers" but I didn't think it quite fit in with his list for some reason.

Another offbeat suggestion that isn't necessarily about war or conflict, but a behind the scenes insite would be Lord of War. It's a glamorized psuedo-documentary on the story of a real life gun runner.

If you want full on war based chaos, then you have to check out Rambo 4 that was recently released. Not much in the way of plot, but it does have a thin scripted mercenary group that is sent in to a hostile country to recover some kidnapped Americans. The plot is about as thick as a toothpick, but the action and violence is absoluely over the top.

another vote for hunt for red october. you might also like crimson tide. the day of the jackal is a good classic that is sort of off the genre but does involve international assassination plots.

The Clancy-based movies all involve some level of intrigue and "intelligence services," but many aren't very well made, nor stay true to the books.

Lord of War with Cage? Did not watch the whole thing, but didn't like it.

We Were Soldiers seems too dramitcal for my taste.
Modern preferred but not needed.

Should I watch the earlier Rambo's before watching 4?

I would make sure to see Rambo 1 first so you can see who he is.

Rambo 1(First Blood) is really the only one that has any sort of passible plot. But it's not an action/war movie at all.

2 & 3 are much more action oriented and are just your basic "R" rated one man army war movies.

4 is pretty much the next 2 movies on crack, with the violence and brutality cranked to 11.

Have you seen the sequel to behind enemy lines? It's really not a good movie -- poorly scripted and not enough money in it -- but it's enjoyable.

Oh also, check out "Breach." It's based on a true story of a ridiculously large security breach that happened in the CIA about a decade ago. Very good movie, lots of suspense.

Sergeant Major Plumly

A hail of bullets cracked and snapped all around us. I was flat on my belly, wishing I had spent the night digging a hole in that rock-hard ground. Wishing I could get even lower. About then I felt a thump in my ribs and carefully turned my head to see what it was. What it was was a size 12 combat boot on the foot of Sgt. Maj. Basil L. Plumley, a bear of a man who hailed from West Virginia.

You pretty much got most of them. As a huge fan of The Unit, I've done similar searching and pretty much own or rented everyone on your list. I like all of the Rambo movies actually. The first one is good to introduce him, and the second and third ones are just good simple 80s action films. The fourth one is badass!

I was very surprised with how good Tears of the Sun is. I've seen parts of it on TV before but never heard much about it (compared to say Black Hawk Down). But with Bruce Willis I figured it can't be that bad. It was in the $5 bin at Walmart so I picked it up last weekend and was very happy that I bought it.

Your list of ones to watch aren't really about SF other than Rambo, but I've seen them all and they are good (though Team America has like nothing to do with the rest :)). Three Kings is good. There is another one that reminded me of Breach, a few years older, can't remember the name but I can find it out when I get home.

I rented the Great Raid last year and it was pretty good. Not big on action but good movie about an early Rangers group rescuing some POWs. If you don't mind the 80s action films like Rambo 2&3, there are Delta Force and Missing in Action movies with Chuck Norris, also the Navy Seals one with Charlie Sheen.

Yeah that's it. It's been a little while but I remember that it was decent.

I'll check out what I have at home and update my post if there are any ones you don't have listed already.

Oh yeah, have you seen 24 OP? Not army or international conflicts, but ex-SF doing lots of infiltration missions and such.

Never watched 24 nope.

I guess I should expand this to plain old action movie since I have not seen em all!
