Might want to check individual episodes of The World At War also. Great series.

I saw your post on the military movie poll. These are helpful. I'm trying to figure out which have something to do with G.B. for this list. It was good that you pointed out the "World at War" series. I had it on my whole list, but not on this sub-list.

Again thanks for the links.

Soldier of Orange.

True, the main character is Dutch, but he flies for the R.A.F.

American Revolutionary War

Drums Along the Mohawk (1939)

In the book, based on a factual account, it is written correctly that Adam Helmer was the one who was the hero. He was the scout for Fort Stanwix . He was spotted by some advanced indian scouts who were on the side of the british, Barry St. Leger's force..

Several hundred indians were heading to the Mohawk Valley to destroy all the settler's cabins and farms. He ran 30 miles ahead of chasing indians, and warned the fort. The entire surrounding countryside was alerted and they were able to seek safety in the fort.

The next time (not covered in the book or the movie) the settlers weren't so lucky.

Hollywood cast "Gil" in the role as the hero, and I really have to say that is the only bad part of the movie. It leads to romance stuff which drags out the story but slows it down.

Wiki - Drums Along the Mohawk claims that it was a fictitious account. There is truth on the other links right here (Wiki pages), but this shouldn't be up there like that.

I'd really have to see the movie. If there is some representation to what you are saying, then I will put it on the british list.

Soldier of Orange (1977) (aka Soldaat van Oranje) 7.9/10 http://imdb.com/title/tt0076734/

It sounds perfect for my 500+ list of all the movies with weapons, battles, combat, war, swashbuckling, (yes...romance, comedy), documentary, and biography list. They are all only a few rated at 5/10 or so. Most are 6/10 or better.

Thanks for the movie.

What did the Brits have to do with "Pearl Harbor"?

In real life, they tried to send warning about the Japanese intentions. Was that depicted in the movie at all? They were down in Singapore which got hit about the same time Pearl did.

Father Goose (1964)

There are some chaps with accents. Cary Grant plays the coastwatcher. There are two naval officers in the movie. I wasn't sure if this was a British or an Australian run operation.

Egads, I can't add it according to Wiki - "coastwatchers"

At least, I don't have to watch it to find out. Thanks Wiki.

Well, if you pretend the Americans have British accents.

That is the problem with this movie. It has american commandoes retrieving the Enigma code machine. In real life, it was the British. They were able to get ahold of other key information to break the german code from some other actions. This movie was a complete failure to represent the R.N. in my opinion.

We would have to pretend that the movie was talking about the British.
