Movies: New ghost in the shell / neon genesis / crouching tiger

Has anyone seen the new Ghost in the Shell series (stand alone complex)? Is it any good? Is it separate from the original film?

Same question for Neon Genesis Evangelion. What's that new thing they just released?

Finally, has anyone seen the "other" version of crouching tiger, hidden dragon?

what "other" version of CTHD?

GITS: Stand Alone Complex i do believe is the same characters as in the movie, but an "alternative" universe. So same general feel, different story. There is a "sequal" to the GITS movie as well out in Japan, with no news about a state side release. (guessing next year)

The "new" NGE is simply i think a remastered version, same thing, better looking, but not sure about that. Later Eps might be different do to what happened to NGE late in its run (budget cuts i think)

And try Anime Nfo for more, its prolly much better than me

And Other version or CTHD? noooooo clue there.

the whole GITS concept is very well done. as for a 'different' CTHD id certainly like to see it. iv never even heard of it, im sure it would have gotten attention by now.

Theres GITS:SAC 1st and 2nd . Both are pretty good series but separate from the movie.

The new NGE is a remastered version of Perfect Collection, with some bonus stuff and possibly 4 episodes a Disc instead of 3 (not sure about this though).

Don't know about Crouching Tiger.

Agreed, the movie is just amazing but the series was such a bore for me . . .

Also, to head off what I know someone is going to reply to this - GITS:SAC fans are like Matrix fans for me. For some reason they assume the reason you don't like the movie/series is that you don't get the philosophicial backdrop to it. I get it. I still don't like it.

I bet you're not into the intrigue genre... *sigh

GITS SAC season 1 and 2 are simply superb! No mushy blarble, no holes in the plot (watchers speculated about the Laughing Man in season 1 all over the anime forums and then got totally shot down when the final 6 episodes came), and very VERY articulated characters. This is like the movie SWAT, except futuristic, cooler, and you need a brain to actually follow where they take you.

Me thinks Chu needs to stop acting like a "chu" and give credit to an anime that exceeds probably 99% of the anime out there.

Actuially, I'm very much into the intrigue genre. Lain is my favorite anime by far, and my favorite of the last 2 seasons is definatly MONSTER. I just don't think SAC is anything special, everything in it could be taken right of the sci-fi channel, it's just really generic sci-fi storylines, at least in the first 10 eps.

EDIT : Are the characters really that well developed? From what I've seen so far it seems like they just assume you know the characters from the movie, where they are very well developed,

Well, sounds like a must netflix but not a must buy to me. That's all the info I wanted.

I liked Lain a lot too. I tried watching haibane renmei but it was just a little too goofy for me. I like Texhnolyze though. I'm still scratching my head thinking about it after seeing the second volume, though.

How far did you get into Haibane? It completly changes after the 4th episode . . .

EDIT : Haibane too goody but Texhnolyze isn't 😕

I may have gotten close... it did seem like it was going somewhere interesting but I found it hard to sit through waiting for that moment.

Weird, I absolutly loved the series before that episode, but the twist made it much MUCH more interesting  Haibane is definatly my favorite anime released in the last 4 years.

btw, if people don't know what I'm talking about, here is a link to the first episode.
