Movies locking up system?

Just did a new build -

2.4ghz A64
Biostar mobo
2gb G.Skill ram
128mb 6200 (8x AGP)

Fresh install of XP Pro, latest drivers & updates. Passed memtest, everything else seems stable. Anytime I try to run a movie-related app - Windows Media Player mainly - it slows the system down to a screeching halt, to the point where it redraws the windows and icons slowly. Any ideas?

Oh and it also makes the screen flicker - anything with a video screen, from PowerDVD to DVD Shrink. Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling the video driver, running a virus scan, A, B, C, and D. No clue 😛

Alrighty - after a bit of work I narrowed it down to the graphics driver (Nvidia ForceWare 91.47, the lastest). Go Nvidia 😛

Edit: Still no luck. Without the drivers installed, the apps run fine, but I have a low resolution. I tried out both old & new drivers. I don't think the hardware is the problem, since it works fine without the drivers. Any ideas?

I think I have it working now. I tried the stock video drivers, the latest video drivers, the stock chipset drivers, and the latest chipset drivers. The combination of the stock video drivers plus the latest nForce pack from nVidia for the chipset made it work. Bah, I'm glad I have a Mac 😛
