i never add butter at the movie theater, so my goal is to get to the state, at home, of movie theater popcorn before butter is added.

According to Amazon flavacol + coconut oil pulls this off. Did my first batch tonight, was a bit light on flavacol, but optimistic about results.

Coconut oil is stupid expensive locally, but Amazon sells a gallon for $20 shipped by Snappy brand. I know that coconut oil is not the poison we were often taught. However, hydrogenated oil (trans fats) are horrifically bad for us. So my question is really: is there a health difference between this bulk coconut oil and the expensive extra virgin coconut oil? Coconut oil is supposed to be solid under 76 f and the Lou Anne brand I bought is, but the pricey stuff at target was already liquified and I don't remember it being that hot...is the cheap stuff partially hydrogenated...?

The best theater popcorn I've had is popped with a mix of canola and coconut (Gold Medal pop-n-lite) + flavacol using OR seed.

Bulk oil is fine for popping.

Try Costco for coconut oil at a decent price. I put some in my yogurt each morning.

Original Flavacol contains only four ingredients: salt, artificial flavor, and FD&C yellows #5 and #6 to provide popcorn with a buttery yellow color

Gross.

Who wants that gross movie theatre crap. Conola oil, sea salt, real butter, and you're good to go.
