In your opinion, what are some movies that are better than the original? We're not talking about sequel or part 2, but remake.

I honestly think that the remake of The Italian Job is better than the original; yeah yeah, cry about it. And, Batman Begins is the best Batman, of all time, of all time.

Umm Begins is NOT a remake. It`s just another Batman movie.

Several of mine are horror movies:

John Carpenter's The Thing
The Fly
Dawn of the Dead (this one is more controversial)

I would agree Batman Begins is the best Batman movie but I'm not sure I'd qualify it as a remake.

I like the Scorsese Cape Fear better than the original with Robert Mitchum, but they're both great.

Dawn of the Dead is a tough call.

the remake is certainly scarier, but the original was a lot more groundbreaking and important.

I agree - I am a big Romero fan - but as a movie to actually sit and watch I prefer the remake. Actually I would probably say the same of The Crazies.

Speaking of which, a lot of Japanese and Chinese remakes are pretty good. The Ring rings a bell, and it's better than the original.

I won't say it's better than the original but The Magnificent Seven is damn good.

I personally liked The Producers with Nathan Lane a tad more than the original, but it's very close and both are fantastic.

You think Batman Begins is better than Dark Knight?

After watching them both recently again, I'd say Begins a better overall movie. DK had one villain that was better, but the origin of Batman made for a better movie IMO.

Not&

Ha! I seem to recall the last time this was debated here that more people agreed with BB > TDK than those who didn't, which is how I see things as well. If TDK didn't have Ledger's performance it would be all but forgetable to me.

As far as other movies... I say The Ring, The Italian Job, and Oceans 11.

The original Dawn of the Dead is way better. I found the remake to be very forgettable, it could have been made by the same idiots that made alien vs predator.

A lot of good ones covered here already; The Thing, The Departed, Ocean's Eleven.

I love Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, but I still have to go with the original on that one. It's much closer than I ever would have expected and Snyder's version has a fantastic ending sequence; what a great way to finish the film.

I'd probably add Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) because that's a freaking awesome movie.

Call me crazy, but I think Let Me In is close to being on par with the original Let The Right One In. I re-watched both back-to-back recently and while the original still stands above the remake, I do believe they are not very far apart and the remake does some very interesting things. That Chloe Moretz is a very, very impressive young actress.
