Movie Making Help Needed Please

I have this project I am about to start, but don't know anything don't know quite where to start. I would like to capture events for my local church and publish them as real audio, quicktime, or any movie format. Other than a digital camcorder, what other tools will I need? What type of camcorder should I look for? After capturing onto film/disk, how do I transfer the material onto the computer, ie firewire, usb? What application would I use to convert and edit the materials into viewable formats?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
