didnt he already have the jewel job before accepting the bank heist job? because i thought deniro's character says to jon voight's character that he doesnt need his score because he already had one lined up, but would meet up with the guy anyways. and thats when the guy explained the pay out and how everything would work out for the bank heist job, and he said he would do his job first. in fact, i think he was already researching the diamond job (the bookstore/diner scene with eady) before discussing the bank heist job.

A point of this failed attempt is

1. Shows how they are supposed to "walk away when they see the heat coming"

2. Shows the bad guys know that they are being watched and decide to go through with the job anyway

3. Shows these guys are pros and know when to call it quits / are observant and smart enough to act in their best interests

I don't know... my food is ready in the microwave so that's all I have to say

I seem to remember a couple references to platinum for that heist but I am not sure.
