Movie experts, what movie is this? (Clint Eastwood)

trying to pad an amazon order so i can use a coupon. cant think of this freakin movie and it's driving me nuts. it's a western with ol' clint eastwood, i dont know any of the other folks in it (it's not hang em high, that had the skipper in it ). i cant keep up with all the names of all his movies. i only saw about 30 min of it, but here's what i saw:

eastwood comes into town (doesnt live there, travelling?)
everyone treats him like pooh, wont talk to him, etc.
the barber seems to treat him ok
he is getting a shave one day and these guys come in and harass them, he blows em away
those guys were hired gunfighters that were supposed to kill a posse (sp?) coming into town. since eastwood killed the gunfighters the sherrif asks him to stay and fight in their place.

that's about all i can remember, and it probably sounds like all of those movies

another thing is the women, she tried to get his attention but he doesnt care, even knocks her over at once point. so they do it one afternoon and the next day while he is taking a bath she comes in and tries to shoot him.

that's the one im leaning towards right now. problem is it was made in 1985, and the movie sure didnt look that recent (and eastwood didnt look over 40).

Could be one of the "spaghetti westerns" that he did. But then again, I could be wrong, as I didn't get my fill of "24 hours of Eastwood" this year on cable tv.

lirion is right. High Plains Drifter. Paints the town red. He's actually the ghost of the dead sherriff (I think that's the idea you're supposed to be left with at the end).

yep, it's high plains drifter. that's one of my fav eastwood movies. as already mentioned, check out outlaw josey wales; that's another great one.

was driving me nuts. high plains drifter was right, thanks a ton! reading the description it didnt sound right, but now that i think about it i remember the dwarf guy. thanks a ton, was driving me nuts

Hands down the best Eastwood movie ever made.

The movie you're thinking of, Bruno, is High Plains Drifter.

Yep, in the movie, Eastwood is a mysterious stranger hired as a gunman by the townsfolk to fight off some bad men that are getting ready to be released from jail, and have vowed revenge upon the town. He sees that the townfolk are as guilty as the bad guys, and tortures them as he prepares them for the bad guys return. (I wont tell you how he knows this, since it would spoil the movie)

And yep, there's a dwarf in the movie who is the town toady, but Eastwood's character protects him, and makes him sheriff. There is also the scene where Eastwood is getting a shave, and he blows away some folks who are trying to kill him.
