OMG I am so all over this movie it aint funny. It is really a maserpiece, if you havent allready, have your self a trreat and watch this flick,,, its a gem.

Should have been a lot more popular than it was. I think it got buried in blockbusters when it came out.

In the prequel Section 8 the aliens start moving in and take over, causing the humans to move further and further out into the suburbs.

I thought it was alright, but I certainly don't need to see it again. Seemed like the story just collapsed into 3rd act action... because action! Also, some of the characters were disappointingly archetypal, but oh well, to each their own.

I liked that it was filmed in Johannesburg, South Africa. I'm all for unusual locations and funny accents.

Every time I think about D9 and Elysium, I get sad for the Halo movie that could have been but that we'll never get. Poor Neill. I think he would have nailed it, too.

I was very impressed with that movie. Too often I catch a film that is a complete let down, and it will typically have a huge budget, a least a couple noteworthy actors, and gobs of special effects that are either cheesy or over the top.

And then District 9 comes along and gives us gold, and with a tiny budget.

One thing did bother me though, apart from the ending. Minor gripe but it does irk me. In the movie you see all kinds of armed troops with a variety of weapons that seem perfectly fitting given the setting in Africa. The use of bright white Beretta CX4 carbines seemed cartoony to me. Those things suck.

The prawn mech was badass though, they definitely nailed it with the end fight scene I thought.

Yeah, this movie is worth mentioning for several reasons. Location, director, actors, story, budget, FX (doubly nice given the budget)... It's not a top 10 sci-fy movie but it'd certainly make a "must watch" list. It was a pleasant surprise.
