Not that much of a move, since I have had it on my desktop for a long time (for Firebug, and compatibility testing), but it was always my back-up browser. Lately I have been running into more sites that don't render correctly on IE. Slashdot started failing a few weeks ago. They must have moved to a new layout or something, and decided to stop catering to IE's stupid renderer. A few php nuke forums also gave me trouble. The docs for Google's Android SDK, and other resources, also failed to render correctly. I always liked IE, but it seems like something has gone off the rails in the last few months. Firefox ftw.

I started using Firefox full time back when it was called Firebird several years ago, haven't looked back since :)

Markbnj, you were a little late to the party... ;-)

Firefox, when beefed up with addons, is such a powerful browser. NoScript, AdBlock and FlashBlock must be a consensus anywhere you go, but i also suggest 2 other addons: IE Tab and AillInOneGestures (closing a tab with a short quick drag is priceless :-D).... all browsers have issues, but i consider Firefox the best overall. i've been using it since version 1.something and have no regrets.

Firefox, Foxit, Media Player Classic and Notepad++ are what i call little blesses.

I used Opera for a few years before switching back to Firefox because of the Firebug plugin (website testing for work). It seems Firefox loads a bit slower, at startup, but other than that I definitely prefer it over Opera. The huge availability of plugins makes it the winner for me. Firebug is just awesome. I don't know of anything like it for Opera, though I haven't really looked for such a plugin for Opera.

Mark,

While rendering issues are important, for me Firefox is all about the addons.:D The MOST important one among them for me being, foxmarks. I use it to keep my bookmarks synchronized at work and at home. It's a real life-saver.

Can we assume that you don't use addons? It sure sounds that way, if you've been using it as a secondary browser for years... (I don't count Firebug as it's a debugging tool)

I have been a longtime firefox user, but I still have found the opposite to be true, that more pages work in IE rather than firefox. I bet its largely do to developers still following IE's crazy standards and not testing on Firefox.

Yeah, that's pretty accurate. I don't need a lot of add-ons. I do use add-ons for Thunderbird, which is my email client for our corporate mail. I may ditch Outlook soon and use Mozilla for everything.

And KB, you may be right that more pages render incorrectly in FF, but for the ones that I read daily it seems to be the other way 'round.

Yeah, I don't disagree there. MS is going to have to come to grips with the notion that computing isn't going to be a one-company world. They have a good operating system family that will be popular and have a good market share for many years to come, and damn nice franchise in Office. They don't need everything else, and fortunately there are signs that the internal culture is starting to recognize this.

I like Firefox on Windows but for Mac I prefer Safari. I'm glad there's a change though. Microsoft can't do what they want all the time hehe.
