Move to Austin or stay in Dallas?

I got a call from my boss this morning. They are opening a new office in Austin and he wants to know if I want to move down there from Dallas. Its totally up to me, if I decide not to go they will probably just send a new guy down there. I doubt this decision will affect my promotion in any way and my territory in Dallas would stay the same.

The pluses would be a 10k relocation bonus, overnight travel would be less for my job and I feel Austin is more of my type of city (music, art, etc...).

The minuses are the fact that I am moving away from many friends I have made up here over the years, I like where I live in Dallas and the toughest thing is I like living with my cousin (we are best friends).

I am 28, single and have no commitments, debts or obligations so moving is no big deal. I am leaning towards moving.

Any opinions?
 
If I was you, I would go to Austin but don't forget the cost of living in Austin is higher. IIRC, Austin cost of living is highest in all the big cities of Texas.
 
Move to Austin. I've spent a lot of time in both cities and IMO it's not even close. Austin has better nightlife, better culture, more outdoor activities, and most importantly, UT. Given your age and the fact that you're single, the presence of such a talent pool cannot be overstated.

It cant be a whole lot higher than Dallas, Uptown Dallas area is pretty expensive.

Now is the time in your life to try new things, meet new people and expand your horizons.
 
How much of that 10,000 will your housing eat up? I'm making an assumption you'll live alone in Austin, so you're bound to incur more expenses.

As for the friends, Austin isn't so far that you couldn't drive for a weekend to see your friends.
 
Move, it's a 3.5 hour drive from Austin-Dallas. You can still see your friends.

Austin is a great city and you have nothing really tying you down. Go for it.

Im not opposed to living with roommates, in fact I prefer it (there is a reason I have never lived alone).
 
I miss Austin, it was a great place to live. I would definitely move back and hopefully I will someday.
 
Sounds like its a no-brainer. I know the girl i'm kind of talking to won't be too thrilled but whatever.

What hotel and area you stayed at? DFW is a pretty big area
 
Austin, no doubt. I live in DFW and have visited Austin. Austin is better in nearly every way except for fewer interesting food options and a smaller Asian presence (at least from what me and my fiancee could see).
