I guess it depends on the cost of a 5870. I believe they are still quite a bit more than a GTX 470. And the 470 will be damn close to it in performance. If you are abosolutely determined to go ATI. The 5850 is a better bargain.

There isn't much point in only wanting a specific brand of card. But I would urge you to wait at least 2 weeks. If you can't then the 5850 or GTX460 would be better value.

1. What types games do you play (FPS, racing, Online RPGs, strategy) / at what resolution?

2. What are the rest of your system specs (including CPU, Ram)?

3. ATI should launch next generation cards within a month (early November most likely).

I agree with the above questions. It is best that OP can supply the answers for the above and wait a bit for the next generation which is going to be out really soon.

Wait a week or two for 68xx info to come out. Even if you do not want one, the launch of that series may drive down the prices of the cards you DO want, NV and AMD alike.

Hi,

I'm a first time poster who's just looking for some suggestions for an upgrade. I'm currently on an nVidia 8600GT and I'm not sure what to get, I'm looking at moving over to an ATI card.

Would you recommend this?

Thank you.

system specs, im thinking of he has a 8600GT and has not upgraded rest of PC then even anything over a GTS250/4850 is going to be a waste.

HIS, Diamond, & VisionTek are the three you have to watch out for when buying AMD/ATI. The rest are all alright with Asus & XFX both having locations in the US to handle RMAs.
