move master boot record?

Hi,

I have two hard drives, one with win98 and one with win2k. I want to pull the win98 drive and use it for something else, but since the master boot record is on the win98 machine, the computer will not boot from the win2k hard drive unless the win98 drive is present. Is there a way to move the master boot record over to the win2k drive? Or is there a software that allows me to select the partition I want to boot from via a floppy?

Thanks.

Leon

I don't know how well this will work nor have I ever tried it but you could try using fdisk to make the Win2k partition active and then do a fdisk /mbr from a boot floppy. Like I said don't know how well it will work but I do know that fdisk /mbr will replace the mbr on a fat or fat32 partitioned drive.

If you remove the w98 drive, you can make your w2k drive boot w2k by opening Recovery Console and running "fixboot". However, your w2k drive letter will then change from D: to C:, and that will produce problems.
