move for a job...

How many of you have moved for a job ? How far are you willing to go ? Were family/friends a consideration, etc. ?

I moved for a job after i graduated college, but i didnt plan on moving back home anyway. My friends spread out throught the country as well.

2 months ago, I moved to take my job. Granted, it wasn't out of state and is only about 160 miles from home, but I suppose it counts.

My job was moved from SF here to Plano TX at my company. They gave me an option to move but in the end I refused it. I love it here in the bay area. Sure the prices of houses are high but so are the salaries. I got a good job within a month of applying here in the bay area. Hopefully soon when I get married, I'll be able to afford a mortgage with my family.

Moved 1200 miles to work for one of the top search engines.

Yep, I said "here's my new address and phone number" 😉

I moved from Massachusetts to California to Texas back to Cali. but then my company asked me to move to Hong Kong for a year and I said fvck that.

Uhh..

well... Boeing laid off my parents...
So we had to move to Texas, then back to Seattle, then California, then back... and we're still here lol.

never done it, but I would.

my company is expanding with new offices in Asia and the south-east US. I've already offered to move to either location.

As a matter of fact, I'm moving my family to DFW, TX from Va Beach, VA next month. My extended family was a consideration, friends were not. My wife and kids are my biggest priority, taking care of their welfare is my #1 concern. That's just the way it is.

Moved for my first job out of school. Was only 100 miles due east, but am looking to move about 1000 miles south now. Been with the current job just under 1 year now.

Everytime I've moved it's been for a job. The farthest was 1900 miles. The shortest was 600 miles. 2100 miles is a pretty good distance from family; keeps visits/obligations to a minimum.

Don't you have gfs/wives who also work ? What would you do then ? Your new job better be damned good. 😉

My wife has her own business and can work most anywhere that has internet.

My wife has a job but not a career, yet. She was happy I decided to take my new position.

I move all the time. My family is in Oklahoma, and I have a house there, but I usually spend 10 months out of the year traveling. I've gone to Chicago, Cleveland, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, etc. I'm not married, but I do miss my family terribly.

I'll be heading to Atlanta in a few weeks in fact. I'm in Cleveland right now. Traveling is sometimes hell, but I feel it's worth it.

i moved from austin, tx to newark, de about six months ago for my new job, and i'm moving back to austin for another job of the same caliber. =)

yay for higher $ offers, no state income tax, and 7 extra days of vacation!

edit: friends / family were a huge consideration for me when i initially moved, but a job was a job and it looked good. i still missed them a lot. as you can imagine, i'll be very happy to go back to austin. i'll miss the four good friends i've made in delaware though, and i'll fly back occasionally to hang out with them.
