Trying to make a vid for a class and I need to clip certain downloaded clips. But theprogram I use (hL Video Editor 7.0) lags beyond belief when I try clipping in it. suggestions?

(i know, Software fourms, w/e. they take days to respond 😉 )

//start of pissed-off rant

I downloaded every freakin program that clips, trims or cuts movies in Mpeg, Mov, WMV, AVI, ETC ETC ET f-ing C! Nothign works! Why is it that I can't find one lousy program that will clip a simple .mov!!??? (mpeg vcr won't recognize movs)

It can't be that hard to find one... but apparently anything that works, you have to pay for to do the actuall clipping.

/end of pissed-off rant

I would take you up on that, but there are going to be tons of clip jobs. I wouldn't want to pass that load off on you, but thanks anyways

but camstudio will only capture my entire screen. The mov is only like 100x100 pixels and I need only those 100x100 pixels captured. Is there a way to route the input from just the .mov file to camstudio? (if it's anything like camtasia, I dont think this will work)

I am so tempted to just drop $30 and get QT7pro. I have 7, but all the features that make QT worth it are in pro. :angry;

Seems like its the ONLY THING out there that does what i need >_<

no, screw camtasia.
Camstudio allows you to draw a region or set a fixed region
(show me one of the videos and i'll do an example for you if you'd like)

Ok, I think I found one that works. Even though it leaves a little "film real" icon in the center of my clip, it at least works. for reference of those who might be having the same prob as me, it's: River Past Video Slice 4.5.4

Ok, to simply grap the video:
-In camstudio, under 'Region' select either Region to be able to draw the desired box around the area of video you want or "Fixed Region" and set it to the size you know you're going to use.

-Under Options, I have "do not record Audio"; in Video Options - i have Microsoft Video 1 (i use that b/c lately i've been dropping them straight into ImageReady to make some animated .gifs or dropping into virtualdub to edit and compress. but select whichever encoding you want).

-still under Video options I have, Quality at 90 and Auto Adjust checked (where it adjusts to Set Key frames every 50, capture frames every 20milli, playback rate 50 fps).

-open your .mov or whatever video, but don't play yet or cue it up to where you want to start recording.

-hit the red button on the camstudio window. if you had it set to region, it will begin recording once you've drawn the region; if you had a fixed region, then it will begin recording once you've "set it down"

-stop recording with the blue button (or F9 is the default i think)

now...if the video didn't record, let me know as there might be an overlay issue (there's a workaround but let's see first)

i'm getting the problem of always having a split second of my mouse being in the beginning. I guess I can crop it out in the movie maker, still though, is there a way to negate the mouse?

Well if you were clipping .avi files I'd suggest using nandub. Great little tool and its even free! .Mov files though?? I think you're stuck with using quicktime. Apple likes to keep stuff proprietary ya know..

Best program for editing MPEG2 files is Video Redo. Can get the 15 day trial from the website. I use it for editing the commercials out of my MPEG2 files I record. For a 5.8 gig MPEG2 file, taking out the commercials brings it down to around 3.8 gigs and it takes about 7 minutes.

Really really simple to use.
