Mousepad no longer responding to touch -Laptop

Well I have this Toshiba Laptop that no longer response to my touch via mousepad. Plugging in an external mouse will allow me to use the system. Could it be a loose connection or something else? By mousepad no longer responding, I tested using a liveCD and was unable to move the mouse and my default OS: Windows Vista and unable to move the mouse.

could be a connection, but unless you dropped it or jarred it hard, I wouldn't think so. If it is still under warranty, sounds like time for a claim.

Assume you mean touchpad? Have you check BIOS to make sure it is on? Sometimes the presence of an external mouse auto disables the touchpad. When you say "move the mouse," do you mean the cursor?

I've had multiple laptop (mainly Lenovos) touchpads stop working following a windows update that installed pointing device drivers. Try going to device manager, and rolling back (if possible) the drivers for the device.
