Mouse with the most buttons?

So as some of you may have read, i lost the use of my left arm in a streetbike accident. I have been playing Far Cry and doom3 (beat both 1 handed) and am taking a stab at HL2.

I didn't have too much difficulty with the first 2 but now i am. i just dont have enough buttons on my mx510 to control the game easily. It only becomes an issue in vehicles, but you need them a lot in the game so here i am... seeking help.

Any other mice with more bottons? Joystick doesnt really cut it.... I need it to be totally configurable like the 510. I'd go for the revolution, but i hear you cant configure th buttons like you can on the 510.. is this true?

are you serious about the streetbike accident?

If so you may want to check to see what other people use if they have one arm they probably don't use the average mouse I'd imagine.

Yea, i'm serious... it sucks, but sh*t happens. I don't want no clunky "handicapped" device. i want something suitable for gaming. I used to maintain at least a 1.25:1 kill/death ratio in bf2, halo, Rainbowsix3, etc.... i'm down to .75:1 it's killin me haha

dam, sorry to hear that

well, I was thinking what do you really generally do with a keyboard? probably use it for moving, crouching, changing weapons, running, and in-gaming typing.

What if you got some sort of thing to use your feet for like walking that would eliminate like 4 buttons might as well use your feet if you have em. I can understand if you don't want to look like an idiot but doing everything with the mouse just isn't that realistic.

how do you type now? on-screen keyboard?

on another subject I was thinking about getting a motorcycle this kinda makes me want to think twice.....

Hey man, sorry about your accident but I'm super glad to hear you're bouncing back from it and are happy/proud to be doing things as close to the way you used to do them (despite that 0.75:1)! Cheers for you!!

I had to laugh a little bit when I read w00t's post - made me think of somebody playing cs with a mouse while dancing on one of those dance revolution mats. Honestly, if that was the alternative I'd stick with the 0.75:1 ratio! 😉

Time for a post from me that actually contributes. 😉

What if you were to try a combination of something like this trackball and this gamepad? I have both and if I rotate the Nostromo to be upside down, my pinky/ring finger can hit many of the buttons while my thumb controls the trackball and my index/middle finger do their things with the buttons. What makes the trackball so nice in this combination is that you're not constantly moving your hand around so that allows your other two fingers to rest consistantly in the same places on that gamepad.

Good luck!

Good call - i might try to jerryrig something like that together... i have a nostromo already - but its for the left hand :-

i was thinkin about using something with the feet (a la pedals on a racing setup) but i'm not sure that'd work.

currently my mouse is setup:

thumb buttons: sprint, jump and/or reverse
mouse1: fire
mouse2: move forward
mouse3(scroll button): use
mouse 3(wheel): Fwd=weapon-select Back=jump, use, or zoom

button in front of wheel: grenade
behind wheel: reload
behind that: jump, use, 2ndary fire, ???

thats my general set up depending on game - i dont strafe any more. thx for the encouragement guys.

The way I have it setup to maximize use of the buttons on the nostromo (which yes, mine is for your left hand as well) was to put the trackball right-side up with the top facing your monitor and then put the nostromo to the right of it with the top of the nostromo facing the right side of the trackball (and the right side of the nostromo facing the monitor). Doing this, depending on how coordinated your pinky/ring fingers are (mine aren't very coordinated), I'd say you could make use of 4-8 buttons on the nostromo - all of which are programmable. And if for some reason you don't need to move much, you can always take your hand off of your trackball for just a split second and gain access to all of the other buttons, again all of which are programmable.

Good luck if you give it a try! For the trackball, it may take you some getting used to but I've found that in FPS I'm more accurate with the trackball than with a mouse, mostly because I can easily take my thumb off of the trackball when I click to fire and I don't have to worry about that click moving the mouse even a hair then. But I've also found that I can't use the trackball to draw worth sh!t.

sound like a good idea, you can always try to write to logitech explaining your situation, and see if you can configure a set of pedals to be usable.
