Weird thing... this is the third time I formatted and installed Win2K. Up until this point, I've never had the mouse giving me any problems. But this time around, I have two mice show up in the device manager. The USB one and the normal one... the thing is that I have it hooked up through the USB port and it works fine. I delete the PS/2 mouse everytime, but when the computer reboots, it shows up again. Then it has that exclamation saying this device ain't working right... bothers the hell outta me.

Another question, what benefits do I get using the mouse through USB rather than PS/2? Better resolution??? I'm thinking if I can't figure out a way to get rid of the PS/2 mouse under the device manager permanently, I'll just get rid of the USB and connect the mouse through the PS/2 port... freeing up a usb port.

I've also gotten a PS/2 mouse show up after a clean install of Win2K, I forgot when it disappeared but I was reinstalling all my drivers (Detonator 3, Liveware, Intellipoint, Win2K SP1, etc. and it went away by itself.

On the other hand, there was a time I tried to install without ACPI (i.e. set the PC to Standard PC during Win2K setup), and the stupid PS/2 mouse appeared no matter what I did.

!!! That's what I just did !!! I had to install it without ACPI because my computer wouldn't boot up. (Registry errors because harddrive got shut down before it finished writing from cache)...

This was the first time I used that F5 standard PC install. So I take it there's no way to get rid of this sucker huh? I might as well just connect it through the PS/2 port then... will I lose anything performance wise? The resolution or whatever of the optical mouse? Would I even notice?
