So my mouse crapped out on me after several years... it was just a standard MS Intellimouse. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on a new one to get? Price < $75.

I've been eyeing the Logitech G5 and also MX518 (which is better? They look the same to me besides the customizeable weights), also looking at the DeathAdder and Logitech G9.

Any personal experience with any of these would be great, thanks!

EDIT: Got the Razer Deathadder 3.5G. Wow the 3500 dpi setting is insane, I barely have to move my hand at all. Loving the feel of the mouse too, it fits nicely in my hand. The buttons are big so they are still usable with different grip styles. I'll keep editing with more observations.

EDIT 2: Make sure your Windows mouse sensitivity settings are at 6 (default), otherwise you will be flying all over the screen.

I've had a G5, MX518, and now use a G9. I haven't tried the DeathAdder, but it looks like a nice mouse. I paid $40 or so for the G9 (with a rebate) and used it to replace my G5. The major reason that I wanted to replace the G5 was that I had a first generation mouse with only one side button. However, other than that, there wasn't anything wrong with the G5.

If you have the opportunity to hold them, that would be ideal. The MX518 and G5 have a similar shape, but the G9 and DA have different feels with their different shapes. Really it comes down to what you prefer to hold. All of the mice that you mentioned will serve you well. I really do like the feel of the G9 over the older logitech mice (which were quite good in their own right). However, many people have other feelings!

I have a G5 (newest revision with the blue cracks). I use for 8 hours a day at work. It's nice but I don't like the texture of the top of the mouse. It's got this kind of dry/uncomfortable feeling to it. The sides have this nice grippy black texture that I wish the entire mouse was made out of . I also don't like the seven button style mouse, like how the scroll wheel has a regular push straight down, or you can go left/right. It never registers what I want to do correctly.

I have an old school MX510 at home (glossy blue). I've enjoyed it for the past few years but found a deal on a Deathadder from Amazon for $30 a few weeks ago, so I had my wife get it for me for Christmas. So unfortunately I won't be able to play with it for a few more weeks.

i use the g9, i use the slim grip, works great. its a weird rough grip at first but in the end it feels better esp for gaming. doesnt have many buttons though so if you are a windows button freak don't get it. though you can bind extra buttons to the tilt wheel function to get an extra two. and of course i have profiles set so different apps have different bindings.
and as always, uber options. and of course the auto profile switching is pretty awesome so thats good.
the driver features are vastly different from mx518 to the g9, its the hidden difference. logitech doesn't add features to its drivers over time, you get what was included in the original spec and nothing else:p the 518 driver was pretty damn bare, but the g9 has lots of macros/auto profile switching goodness. and of course the pretty led color changing lights to indicate profile switch

Which reminds me I need to go back and play around with the software one day! But really, I love the shape and texture with that more rough version of casing (I assume tis called 'slim grip'?). MX518 and diamondback 3G are my other two mices currently in use, and G9 is by far the best in terms of shape and ergonomics in general IMO.

MX518 FTW here. I have not tried any other mouse since my MX510 bit the dust about three years ago...so...the 518 is still chugging along and doing just fine. Newegg had a sale on 518's a year or so ago, so I picked up a spare. The Intellimouse software is all you need and it works on my Win 7 64 bit OS. I do lots of gameing so my mouse gets a good workout. There you have it.

I use the Razer DeathAdder. It fits amazing in your hand, and is extremely accurate. It looks a lot better than any of the Logitech mouses. Logitech makes nice products, but their designs are ugly as sin.

My Samsung SyncMaster 2333 24" LCD, Antec 1200 Full Tower, Razer Lycosa, and Razer DeathAdder all match perfectly!

I know you said your price range is under $75 dollars. You have a lot of great options to look at, and its really all about your personal preference. I love every Logitech mouse I've ever used. You can't go wrong with the G9x or the G5. Also, the G7 is only a 20 spot above your price range and the versatility that a wireless mouse gives you is awesome.

I've never had any problems with the wireless, but some people have. The choice is really yours to make, but I recommend anything from Logitech.

I've got a Razer lachesis and it's freaking awesome.

i used one for 3 days before i put it back in the box, its prob the most uncomfortable mouse ive ever used

Went back to my trusty G7

i have a SteelSeries Ikari as well but the shape of the G5/G7 is far superior but the Ikari is infinitly better then the Lachesis

Ended up getting a Razer Deathadder. Loving it so far, thanks for all the replies everyone!

I just got a Deathadder 3.5g a few weeks ago. I love how smooth it is, but I dunno if it's due to no mouse pad or what. Sometimes my cursor will get a bit jumpy when I'm trying click on a menu or icon or something.

I think the mouse feet are coated in Teflon or something. Mine is much smoother than my old mouse too.

In terms of the cursor, I've heard some people say they have problems with black mousepads (though this also may be a problem with the mousepad vs. a problem with the mouse). I have a black mousepad and it's working fine.

Well I convinced my wife to let me open up the deathadder last night.

Wow, this mouse is VERY comfortable. I also like the material and feeling of the mouse a million times better than my G5 at work.

Now i'm trying to figure out a nice sensitivity setting. It seems to accelerate pretty fast when moving the mouse very slowly, which is the opposite effect of what I prefer.

I have mine sitting on a black cloth mousepad. One of those big ones that is like 16x20 inches. I've used this mousepad for every mouse over the past few years and it's always worked great.
