Hey all - I've read that it is normal for the PS2 mouse to stay on after shutdown - but I don't want to wear down the optical light - does anyone know how I can get mouse to turn off at shutdown?

BTW - it's the MX510 on XP Pro

Thanks

I had / have the same problem with my logitech mousman wheel optical USB (was PS2) in WinXP.

Have a MSI K7n2Delta...it has been doing this for almost 2 years now....and my mouse is still working.

I don't mean to sound paranoid about a little light but I just had to buy the 510 (50 bucks) today because my 500 (which has never displayed problems before) died today...

I have the same thing going on. After I shut down, that optical red light is still on. I actually thought it did that until now. :p I've had it (Microsoft Optical PS2/USB) for about a year, and it's still kickin'! But yeah, I understand you, the mouse was $50...I'd be paranoid too. Don't know what to say though. If you can't find a solution and are still paranoid about it, I suppose you can just unplug it...

Fixed my prob -

Mobo doesn't supply power to USB when its off - I switched from ps/2 to usb - there shouldnt be any performance diff right?

If anything I would think USB would be better...

But i mean we ARE talking about a mouse...

There is a feature where this is taken cared of. I cannot remember where at the moment. I built a new PC about 4-5 weeks ago and the initial assembly had this going on. After playing with the BIOS settings it stopped. This was stumbled upon and as such I don't remember exactly what I did to get it to stop.
