Mouse sometimes double clicking by itself?

All of a sudden this morning my Logitech optical mouse is double/triple clicking on its own about 70% of the time. It doesn't matter if I click quickly or slowly, it does it. Anyone know if the mouse is dead or if it is a different issue?

Maybe it's dirty? My MS mouse started having the same problem. However, that I can attribute to my 1 year old playing with it after she realized she could reach it on my computer cart. 😀

Time for a new one most likely. The only other thing I can think of is that you have some sort of spyware doing it but not likely.

I went out and purchased a new Logitech MX518 after the problem still persisted after a new Windows install.

You probably tried this but did you try adjusting the controls in the Control Panel?

Was it a Logitech mouse before? I would recommend completely uninstalling any mouse drivers and then reinstalling them.

Another possibility is the actual mechanical clicker is wearing out but since it is happening on two different mice, I would say it is either a system or a driver setting.

It only happened with one mouse. The thing is, it happened AFTER a clean install of Windows as well (and by clean I mean brand new hard drive and it was doing it as soon as Windows booted the first time).

OK then, is it a wireless mouse. Sorry, not about to look that mouse up. I am feeling lazy at the moment. I understand that wireless mice sometimes have difficulty with sending/recieving of signals due to distance, position, angle, battery power, or signal disruption.

And I am sorry, is the problem fixed with this new mouse or is it continuing. After my initial read-through, it seemed as if it was continuing, but your current response is in the past tense implying the issue has been solved by replacing the hardware and installing new drivers.

I had to post this. I just ran into the same problem with my mouse double clicking a lot when I only single clicked. I quickly grabbed a WD-40 can and wedged the straw under the offending mouse button and unloaded. I then shook the mouse vigorously to get rid of all the excess WD-40. Problem 100% solved and mouse back to normal.
