mouse slows down ever since upgrading to athlon xp

I just upgraded from a P3 500 to an athlon xp 1800, but now whenever I go into a game (quake3, max payne, avp2, ID2) the mouse LAGS. It works fine in windows, but I can't stand the lagging, it makes clicking on anything impossible. Does anyone know what's going on here? This is something that's never happened w/ my P3

I had this same problem and it turned out that dma wasn't enabled. Even though I had it enabled in the bios win xp wasn't picking it up as dma. I was running in pio mode, ugh. Just maybe want to double check that winxp sees your drives as running in dma mode.

i would check the counter-strike forums.. i had that problem when i went to XP pro in counter-strike.. went back to w2k cuz that bugged me as hell..
