Mouse sampling rate Hack/Utility

I have a Kensington PilotMouse Optical Pro. My problem is that there is a delay between when I have pressed the mouse button down and when the computer recognizes the mouse button as being down. This delay is anywhere from a quarter of a second to half a second. I need to increase the polling rate of the mouse. I know I was able to do this with the generic mouse I had before this one by going to the device manager but this setting is not available with the drivers available with this mouse. I have tried several generic mouse drives from microsoft but none have prevailed to remedy the situation. So what I need is a method tto increase the polling rate of the mouse so the computer will have a faster responce to to changes in the mouse's state. Does anyone know of a utility or registry hack to do this?

I am running Windows XP. I have tested this with 2 of the same mouse of 2 different computers with the same results.

TIA!
