mouse recognition after windows boot

hi all,

i have a theoretical question:

i share a mouse between some of my computers. sometimes i forget to plug the mouse into the computer i want and accidentally boot it up. i only realize that i forgot to plug-in the mouse after the widows logon screen shows. at this point, is there any way to plug in the mouse and make windows see that i have plugged the mouse in?

i always have to reboot after i plug in the mouse after windows have booted up initially.

thanks,
chipy

remember: buying another mouse is not the point... i want to know if what i said above can be done - thanks.

You can try going into control panel, open the system icon, get into device manager, under actions you can redetect hardware. You can do all this using the keyb.

hey apple juice,

thanks for the info but it didn't work w/ my mouse... i'm guessing the bios has to recognize it.

anymore suggestions, anybody?

thanks
chipy

Check for the BIOS setting, "Play and Play OS" and set to yes. It depends on the BIOS, the mouse, the interface and the OS for support, what kind do you have? PS2 or USB? Most PC's with USB have no problems recognizing USB mice at any time but as far as PS2 it's dependant on the BIOS mostly.

thanks for the reply compso,

my mouse is ps2... and i did what you recommended... however, unfortunately, it didn't work either.

oh well, no big deal... time to get another mouse 🙂

thanks
mark
