Mouse reccomendations

I'm looking for a high proformance mouse, preferably with a keyboard. I do quite a bit of gaming, but I'm also going to be using it for graphics work as well. My current mouse is about 6 years old and while it's been a good reliable mouse, it's just not not wanting to respond like it used to anymore so it's time to retire it. I've been looking at different keyboard/mouse combos for awhile and I think I've over-shopped myself. Tons of mice claim to be good for gaming, but I'd like to get some actual user opinions, instead of just what the manufacturer's say.

I suggest a Mouse from Razer and a keyboard from Steel Series. As someone else said, don't buy a bundle... no reason to limit yourself like that, you won't save enough money to justify the limitations.

Steel Series Merc Keyboards are amazing for MMO's, you cannot beat their button layout. Razer makes the nicest looking mouse out there, their DPI and 1ms polling rates are second to none.

for games, i use a razer lachesis
good: software, durable, flashy
bad: smallish, 2 buttons will be under your pinky and be useless.

and a razer lycosa mirror edition keyboard
good: excellent software, usb pass-thru, flashy
bad: don't buy this keyboard, buy the original black version. the mirror edition uses big, loose keys and not the precision keys on the black. also, the backlighting is better on the original. if you held both in your hands, you would clearly see the mirror edition is a much cheaper keyboard. buy the black version for the same price.

Logitech G9/G9x or if you like the older design G500 by Logitech. As for keyboard, I always get ergonomic split -- but most people don't like it. I'll throw it out there though, I have the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.

Go to best buy and try out mice until you find one that fits your hand well. Some people like Razer mice, some people love Logitech, some people find Microsoft mice nice (like the Sidewinder). Personally, I hate how Razer shapes their mice, although plenty of other people like them a lot. I would personally be fine with any Logitech mouse or Sidewinder.

Thanks for the reccomendations! I found a really good deal on a G5 on ebay. Does anyone have any input on this one? I like the blue/black colouring better than mouse I've seen so far, and I like the way logitechs fit in my hand.

G5 is a good mouse. However, I think for around the same price you can get something a little bit better. Check out the Razer Deathadder. Its on sale right now and if you read around this forum, you'll find other people that really like it.

i prefer the g9, software profiles and all that goodness. esp nice are the any color leds to indicate whether you've really switched profiles. important if you alt tab a lot

I'm not really satisfied with the quality of my razer DeathAdder. Performance is excellent on some mats, and it has the best sidebuttons I've ever used. But the front feet wore off after 1,5 years. the feet on my mx510 were still fine after 3 years. Plus Logitech sends replcement feet for free. I'm a claw/finger gripper and I regret not buying the Logitech G3.

I own a Logitech G9 and while I like it overall, it leaves most of my hand dragging along the mousepad and I am a claw gripper. Gets pretty tiring. So, I'm looking for a new mouse also.

If your a low sensitivity gamer i recommend staying away from laser mice, which unfortunately is everything highend from logitec (g3/g5/g7/g9/everything else classified as gaming grade). If your not a low sensitivity gamer then its not really that big of a deal, but be aware that the laser sensor (not optical) on logitec mice craps out at 1.4m/s on a perfect mousepad. The only mouse from razer that is based on laser tech. is the copperhead which i recommend staying away from even if your a high sensitivity gamer, as the sensor on it is complete ass.

If your going to get a razer, i would stick with the 3.5g sensor only as the laser is COMPLETE shit, and the optical is decent but aging. These 3.5g mice will serve great for anything low sens to high.

If your going to get a logitec you first need to look at what sensitivity you use. If your a low then you need to look at the older generations (mx518,mx300,mx500). If your a medium to high then the new generations (g3/g5/g7/g9/whatever else they have listed on their site for gaming) will do great, as logitec's laser sensor isn't completely bad, but once again cant go above 1.4m/s.


The above is basically performance, but another thing that greatly changes how well/bad the mouse performs for you is the shape.... Unfortunately the only way to know 100% for sure which u need is to try them out, but the link above about different grip types will work fairly well if you have to order online

It works very well and on more surfaces then any optical.

The G500 is said to have a very crappy mousewheel button.
