I have an Intellimouse 1.1A (At least that's what I think it is.) that randomly cuts off (it's as if someone unplugs it).
I've tried it in both USB ports, with my PS2 adapter and installed the Intellipoint drivers.
I've cut off as many programs as I can from task manager.
At first it would cut off every couple of hours and come back on after a second--but now it stays off for up to a minute at a time, cutting off, flickering, cutting off, coming on, cutting off...sometimes staying off until I unplug it and reset it.
I'm at the end of my rope, none of the people I know know how to fix it.
PS, it's not the mouse...I had a cheap Logitech that started doing this not long ago, as soon as I got this new mouse, it did the exact same thing.
 
Just now the mouse cut off and I got a "USB Device not recognized" error in my system tray.
I haven't seen that before.
 
Have you tried another mouse to see if it's the mouse? Sounds like there is something phyically lose in the connections in the mouse.
 
Two things you can try:

1. In Control Panel, click the Mouse icon, click Hardware tab, and click the Troubleshoot button. Then, follow the troubleshooting routine.

2. From the same place, click the Properties button, and click the Driver tab. Then try removing and reinstalling your mouse driver.

Troubleshooter didn't give me any helpful fixes.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling IntelliPoint and it didn't work.
Usually a little symbol pops up in my system tray when the mouse dies, I have no clue what it is since I can't click it to find out.
I managed to get a screenshot of it (The one with the arrow over the grey thing).

Only if your power supply is too small, or you're getting spikes. Do you have a surge protector?

Does the mouse work on another board? If so, you may have a logic problem on your motherboard, or some other peripheral could be generating trash on the logic lines.

Not exactly what I asked. Does it work, now? If so, then it's got to be the motherboard or something plugged into it, especially if the system does the same thing with another mouse.

That little symbol is Window's "safely remove hardware program". It allows you to "stop" peripheral's driver before disconecting it (in about 1/eleventy billion cases, not doing so would make windows crash). If you double clicked it, it would bring up a window with a list of all peripherals and the option to "stop" them. The fact that its popping up "MAY" indicate that there's something wrong with windows (You may have to reinstall). Unfortunately, I don't know a way to confirm this. Hope this helps.
 
Yes, as I've said it pops up just as the mouse deactivates...so there's no way I can click it.
Still haven't been able to try the mouse on another computer, may be awhile if I can't do it tomorrow.
