mouse problems

I just reformated and am having a problem with clicking and dragging. When I drag an icon on my desktop it will randomly stop without me unclicking the button. The problem also occurs when highlighting, I can't really highlight because it just unclicks without me unclicking. Its just an annoying little problem, hope I can get some help. I have a Microsoft USB IntelliMouse and am running Windows XP Home with all the latest updates.

Dunno man, but here's a free bump.

If I had to guess I'd say a bad install. I use win2kpro with my MS Navigator (or whatever it's called) mouse and the standard MS drivers work fine.

Update: I thought it would be my mouse, so I went to the store to buy the new mx518 and I still get the same problem.

this problem started after a reformat. my mouse's left click button doesnt work when using a usb mouse. everything else works fine (moving, scroll, right click). ive tested with 2 usb mouses. non-usb mouse works perfect

try a diff usb port.

My I ask why you were reformatting ? Was there a problem which caused you to reformat ?

yes...have tried other usb ports
I've plugged it into every usb port. the problem is kinda different than he posted let me get it all straight. I have 2 usb mouses, neither of them work correctly clicking the left button. one of them is more of what i explained earlier with clicking and dragging mostly. the other mouse i have to hold down the button for it to even register it being clicked. but on both, the cursor moves fine, and all the other buttons work. (one of the mouses is brand new). if i plug in a normal mouse (non-usb) it works perfectly. this problem didnt start until after a reformat so its gotta be somethin i didnt install or somethin. help if you can...i formatted because i had way too much spyware, and all kinds of viruses etc ...got tired of dealing with it so i just figured it was time for a format..get things with a fresh start

Have you tried to download the drivers to see if your mouse driver is corrupt?

I bought a new mouse, the new mx518, uninstalled my old mouse drivers and installed the new ones...I have also tried on different usb ports...I get the same problem

Try a USB to PS/2 adapter (should have come with new mouse), if its still happening then its either a driver or mobo issue. If it worked before the F&R, then its a driver issue. If it dinna work before the F&R, its a mobo issue.
