Mouse problems....

every five minutes or so, my mouse (the pointer) just goes beserk all over the screen and opens or closes anything that it goes over. The only way I can stop it is to press the window key on my key board, and I sometimes have to do that several times before I can get control over the pointer again.... I am running win xt with a ms basic two button mouse (no scrolling device)... Any one who has an opinion on how to fix this????? thanks
 
I've got a USB MS basic optical mouse and it also has similar problems in win XP for me. It's not every 5 minutes, but about every 30 minutes. I never had a problem with my old logitech on the same system, so maybe it has something to do with the mouse...
