Mouse Problem

For about a year I have had a logitech MX518 mouse and it worked fine, but recently it stopped working. All of a sudden it stopped working and would keep connecting and disconnecting. When I plug it into another computer, it works fine, but when I plug it into my computer my computer makes the sound of something being plugged in, and then something being unplugged and keeps repeating those sounds. I tried to reinstall the logitech drivers and I eventually reformatted but nothing has fixed the problem. I have a ball mouse that works perfectly(besides being a horrible mouse) but my logitech mouse does not work at all. I also have an older logitech(dual optical mouseman or something) that does the exact same thing as the 518. When I plug in the mouse windows recognizes it, but it fails to install. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
 
tried all usb ports. the ball mouse that works is also usb. Tried usb to ps2 adapter and still does not work.
 
It would be interesting to try another MX518 on your system (but impractical I know).
What shows up in control panel (re-mice)?
 
have you tried uninstalling all the old drivers and installing the latest ones from logitech or letting windows find its own (after all drivers are gone)?
did you change any settings or install any programs recently? have you opened anything suspicious recently? maybe it's a new type of virus.
just thinking of different things but I have no idea what could be causing that problem
 
i reformatted today expecting the problem to go away, but it persisted. using the mouse now on a laptop, but on my desktop it doesnt work. No clue whhat to do.
