mouse/ pointer hangup problems

for the last couple weeks ive been experienceing a problem with my pointer/ mouse. when im using the computer for browsing or playing games, the pointer hangs up on the screen for a very short period of time (less then a second), but it happens very often like every couple of seconds, and is really annoying. i thouroughly cleaned the mouse, but it seems to happen when the computer is "thinking/ processing something" like opening a new webpage. any thoughts on this? could it be a mermory issue?

what specs?
and what virus software?

its a dell 400sc, all the standard components except a geforce 6800 graphics card. My antivirus software is norton. been running this same setup for quite a while, and the problem is relatively new.

Run a virus/spyware scan

i also have adaware and spybot installed, not sure if that makes a difference

wow, stay away from norton. its only bad news
most likely one of you virus scanning programs is causing the problems. Especially the spybot thing. Its always running and it probably is messing with the games. try running clean with no virus programs. that may help. otherwise you may want to increase you memory. Something is maxin out your resources causing the hangs
