mouse pointer doesn't become responsive until 2min after boot

I have a weird problem on Win 7 x64. The scenario: I boot up my PC (doesn't matter if cold or warm). As I have a fast machine with SSD, I see the desktop within ~20s or so. The keyboard is fully responsive at that point. PC is responsive if I load programs via keyboard hotkeys etc.

However, the mouse pointer is frozen until ~2min after boot. This obv defeats the purpose of having an SSD, as I have to wait for 2min after startup until I can use the mouse.

This happens with two different mice (a corded Dell mouse as well as with a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000). It doesn't seem to matter which USB port I use. Also, I'm running a dual-boot system and the mouse is available instantly when booting into Ubuntu.

I have no clue how to fix this. Any thoughts?

I just wanted to say that I'm having the exact same problem, only with a keyboard. Tried two different USB keyboards on different ports, though the mouse works fine. The keyboards work fine in the BIOS though, so I'm wondering if maybe it's a corrupt driver or something. I'm also running Win7 x64.

That's what it sounds like to me. Try going into device manager and removing all mouse drivers and letting windows reinstall them.

Just a thought, you might try enabling legacy USB devices in the BIOS.

It was enabled when I checked (I also tried disabling it which didn't do anything, either).

I'm almost sure it must be a windows issue since the issue doesn't appear when I boot into Linux. Do you have any kind of "unusual" drivers on your system? fwiw, the only non-standard thing I can think of on my machine is an ASIO driver.

Oh, I've installed all sorts of random stuff on here since I installed Windows in December. The problem started happening out of the blue, though, I can't think of any changes I made immediately before.

Does Windows 7 have a "safe mode"? Try booting into safe mode to see if it's some sort of driver issue.

You mean to an earlier system restore point? That's not really practical given the amount of software I've installed/stuff I've changed since this problem first occurred.

Nice suggestion. Interestingly, I can move the mouse right away when booting into safe mode. So yeah, it sure must be a driver problem. If now, I could only figure out how to solve it...
