Mouse Pad

I'm not sure if this should be here or in peripherals or somewhere else, but I'm most interested in it for gaming.

I'm looking to buy a new mouse pad. The one I have now I got for free with my Rogers internet. It's the worst pad I've ever used.

What are you guys using, and do you have any recommendations? I don't want to buy anything real expensive. Also, keep in mind I'm in Canada so a mouse pad that costs $30 in the US would cost me somewhere around $50CDN and there's no way I'm going to find shipping cheaper than $10.

I see a few Razer pads being recommended with a Google search but they are ~$50US.

Maybe I'd be better off just buying one at Walmart.

I've been using this one for years and it works great. I think it was $10 at London Drugs.

The table where I use my PC is made of glass, so I still need a mouse pad.

Some surfaces have too much friction which wears the mice feet much faster and make it more uncomfortable to use. Some surfaces won't track optical mice, only laser; so yeah mouse pads are still needed in some cases and they improve the mouse performance and comfort in ALL cases (especially if it's a nice pad).

I like my Everglide Titan a lot. Otherwise this is very cheap and works better than a bare table.

I don't because my desk is already a great surface to track on. It has the wood grain laminate to track on properly but I do see the need for them as some people don't have that.

I use a cloth one I got from iCustomDesign. Nice and smooth with my G9.

I have used rigid "gamer" type mousepads before, and cloth mouse pads are better. In fact, I have the cloth mousepad I mentioned sitting on top of my glowing cyber snipa acrylic mouse pad.

the ones they make now suck, though, they're enormous and square. mine is oval with an indent at the bottom for your wrist.

I'm using one of these , which I appreciate is somewhat random. . . a bit of cloth topped foam-rubber stuff. . . but every other one I've ever tried has never felt quite the same since. Really nice quality.

I have a foam and cloth mousepad I bought at an Avenue Q show...it's got Trekkie Monster and the caption of "The Internet is for Porn". I think it fits any scenario.

I got something similar to one of these, it provides a desk-wide mouse pad as well as a flat writing surface for my old surface torn desk. Lol...

These are gaming grade and great for shooters. You'll notice a difference when you stop your mouse and it lands exactly where you wanted. You'll need a gaming grade mouse too obviously or you won't notice anything. A lot of people discount a good mousepad but if youre into counter strike or CoD you really will see its effects.

reasons to use a mouse pad:

1. tracking - some desk surfaces simply aren't that great, if possible at all. There is also more to it than working or not, some surfaces will track but can induce unwanted acceleration in the tracking for uneven mouse performance

2. friction - contrary to popular belief, a frictionless surface isn't necessarily ideal, more friction (or rather the right amount) can provide greater control for more precise movements. At any rate, a mouse pad can give you whatever level of friction you find best for your own needs.

3. consistency - perhaps the most important reason...playing surfaces can change, whether you move desks/get a new one/go to LANs, etc...a mouse pad can stay the same. Even if it wears out you can always replace it with an identical one (assuming the design doesn't get phased out)

Another reason for me would also be cleanliness, it can be much easier to clean a mouse pad (especially a hard surface/non cloth pad) than a desk. All I do is bring it to a sink and scrub with with a soft brush and dish soap and its as good as new.

I'm using an xtrac ripper. It's a cloth pad with a finer threading than normal cloth mouse pads. Having used a func 1030 for a few years before this, I would avoid plastic pads as they do tend to wear down after extensive use. I'm not sure how this cloth one will hold up, but after a year it's still working just fine. There is also a ton of surface area so I can rotate the pad if one spot gets worn.

I have something very similar in design to this, for sure makes a differance in DoD, LFD, BF, etc.

Xtrac Pro on my office machine and a Quicksilver pad on my game system.
I love them, even though I have a laser and infrared mouse.

I was using the mouse pad that came with Duke Nukem 3d for the past 13 years. Just got a new desk that doesn't need a pad so I retired the old guy.

I have a Razer eXactmat. Going from a soft mousepad to an aluminum one takes some getting used to, but I like it a lot in combination with my copperhead. The dual textured sides are pretty nifty, but I find myself using the control side all the time. Looks like it's going for $29.95 US direct from Razer.

I have the Ricochet, square but not too huge.

Actually I have 10 of them, still on my first one at home, brought one to work and lent a few out.

Things last forever.

Have also tried Ratpadz, excellent to play on but ate my mouse feet off in like a week.

I use something similar to this. It was around $10-$15 at Office Depot, but it's a very large cloth-based mouse pad. It has the rubber bottom, but it's comfortable, large for making those low-sensitivity motions for precision, and the price is unbeatable. I have used several pads from other companies like Func, Razor, etc, but the cloth ones work the best and keep my mouse feet lasting the longest.

really smooth. Glad I had this when I use to hit up FPS games a lot.
