I am noticing some basic hardware problems with my computer. (P3600E@800Mhz/Abit BX6(r.2)/256MB PC133/Maxtor 30GB & ATA 100 Controller/HP9350i CD-RW/Raite 8X DVD-ROM/ Radeon 64 VIVO).

The problems started when I swapped out my ASUS V6600 (SDR) for a Radeon. The ATI Software refused to recognize my DVD player. After trying many suggested solutions, I decided to do a new format.

I used the "Max Blast" Hard Drive Install Utility to attempt a new partition (it used to work fine). However, when I tried to use it - after "mouse found" - I was sitting with a screen and NO MOUSE and no way to continue. I went to the Maxtor Web site and downloaded the latest version of Max Blast - same problem. I unplugged the mouse to try again (it is supposed to work with the keyboard) but the program does not answer the keyboard input.

Well, then I went to FDISK, set up 2 partitions and installed WIN98 on C drive. However, when I installed Win2K to Drive D, I got the basic BSOD (evidently it won't work with my ATA Controller),

What is up with this? I am back here with a reinstall of a drive image (no DVD player).

Could it somehow be the Radeon 64? I am completely perplexed.

Pretty strange. I guess my next course of action is to reinstall the ASUS SDR and see if somehow the Radeon is causing some conflicts. I'll post results.

Do you have an USB mouse? I think I had mine plugged into the usb port and that happened. After switching it over to the ps/2 (via the usb->ps/2 converter thing) the maxblast software worked with the mouse.

It's a Intellimouse Explores plugged into the PS/2 post. I also tried my regular mouse.

However, it is evidently a defective Radeon. When I swapped out the Radeon for my old ASUS SDR and reinstalled the drive image, the mouse now works fine with my Maxtor Utility.

Evidently the Radeon is causing some basic conflicts with Hardware (from my parallel thread - the DVD-ROM stopped working). In case you start to think there were some leftover ASUS drivers, I did a FDISK and new format with the Radeon and the mouse was still not recognized within the DOS Maztor Utility.

Now what - RMA it; contact ATI?
