So recently my mouse has been acting up....

I'm using it normally and then it pauses and slows down and acts slow and sluggish for a little bit and then it gets normal again. It does this constantly and I have no idea why

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I've had that happen to me before when I was using a Logitech cordless mouse on my old P200MMX machine. Got tired of the problem so I canned the mouse and bought a Microsoft Intellimouse. Best mouse I've ever had. It's also happened to me especially at work (I work in an aircraft maintenance environment), when the mouse ball controls get dirty. Usually a good cleaning takes care of it.

I should have included that.

Sounds like something in the background is causing it.. disable everything in msconfig startup and see if that makes a difference. Assuming its Win98/WinMe

A friend of mine had once asked me to try out his new Microsoft Optical mouse. And the same thing happened. Your reply stating you have an optical mouse reminded me of that. I don't know what the cause was. I had tried it out on different surfaces, mousepad, directly on the desk (wooden oak desk) and the results were pretty well the same. I keep my system lean & clean so I know that it wasn't some program running in the background causing the speed slowdowns on the mouse. Could it be sharing IRQ's or other resources with another device?

I take it you have already gone through all the mouse settings in control panel?
