Mouse movement, lifting mouse to re-center

I still cannot dial in or Zero the mouse with Unreal Tournament III. I'm not sure of all the variables involved too. I am using a R.A.T. 7, I usually clean the eye area; lint roll my mouse pad.. all the usual acceleration features within windows are turned off. I've tried various reg files .. all the deep approaches to fixing this.. dpi level 120% screen etc. I haven't done any desktop tests to see if caused by something from the game. Meaning baselining the desktop VS ingame.. I still have to lift my mouse to re-center it. Could it simply be the mouse? Last time I remember having something close to zero'd in in motion was on a Win 2k system (i've tried the reg, didn't feel right) and I was using a mouse that is no longer in production...

The R.A.T. 7 uses the Philips Twin Eye sensor which is known to have acceleration issues. You can't fix it in settings alone. Try to get an Optical mouse with the Avago 3090 sensor instead (Razer Deathadder, Logitech G400, Zowie FK, Steelseries Kana v2).

Awesome! Thanks a bunch, dude. Where did you learn about this from?

Thanks again

I hated my RAT 9, could never get it to move right. I could never really prove the acceleration/deacceleration. I know it had the z axis issue but the sensor is meant to be otherwise decent. I think it was the weight, it was such a heavy mouse that it had a very different inertia or it could have been something else odd about it.

Been much happier since I got the Zowie AM, light and fast and accurate in a way the RAT 9 never was.

Just ordered the AM off eBay a day or two ago. While I like the Microsoft Sidewinder X3 I've been using the past few days, 500Hz polling rate @ 800 dpi - I can still feel the input lag. If only it was 1000Hz I'd hang on to it and pipeline my weapons in UT3

No human will ever notice any difference between 500hz and 1000hz. That is a difference of one millisecond. The hardware lag of all your other hardware and your network lag on top of that are dozens of times bigger combined.

Case in point: one of the best hitscan (i.e. non projectile weapons) aimers in the world, stermy (from Quake III, 4, and Live), uses a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 wiht 400DPI @ 500hz. Another aim beast, tox / toxjq, uses a Microsoft WMO 1.1a with 400DPI @ 500hz. Even on 120hz monitors and on LAN where the network lag is practically zero. Aim has to do with mastering mouse technique, and nothing to do with whether you have 1ms more or less input lag. Aim also has next to nothing to do with DPI.

So why is the there an odd input lag with this X3 vs my old RAT 7?

EDIT; Meet the first one who has. It could be a driver difference or something but there IS a difference.

What the above poster was saying is that the polling difference wasn't what was causing your to experience the input lag. It could driver issues, software bug, or probably other things I can't think of. Perhaps a port / connection?

The first thing that comes to mind is the polling rate/input lag, and yes the drivers too. To see what was what I plugged my RAT 7 back in the same port, fired up the game and the input lag was gone. In general I see/feel a difference. I have a mouse coming in that is also 1000Hz polling so maybe this will give me a better idea in trouble shooting why there is this strange input lag. While it will consist of the same polling rate as the RAT 7 it will use a different driver which will help narrow things down to a few more variables.
