Mouse looses its settings when unplugging and replugging into usb ports.. any ideas?

I use a Logitech G5 with its latest drivers (SetPoint) with Windows XP Pro SP2. Whenever I unplug my mouse and replug it, it looses its settings (mouse speed, buttons assignment, etc).

It's as if each times windows detect a new mouse. Sometimes it detects the same mouse and applies settings correctly, sometimes it does not.

Any Ideas? I contacted Logitech about this; they can't help. I think it's a design issue with usb connectivity, but I'm really not sure about this.

thanks,

Just out of curiosity, why are unplugging and replugging the mouse in? Also, do you keep plugging the mouse into the same USB plug? I have had devices such as USB jump drives, when plugged into a different port, being treated as a new device and go through the found hardware-load drivers routine

Good question. Actually I'm not unplugging and replugging it in. I use a KVM switch with USB ports for keyboard and mouse. When I switch from a computer to another it's the exact same thing as unplugging and replugging the mouse/keyboard in the USB port, hence my question.

As for your question, I use the same port when unplug/replug-ging the mouse. If I use a different port, Windows detects and installs a new hardware, then setpoint follows, and the rest is the problem I described.
