The red led on my Intellimouse Explorer won't turn off even with the computer turned off. Is there an solution to this?

The lower rear of the mouse lights are always on to inform the user that it's the mouse is enabled and working.

Apparently your computer is not really OFF - it is on power up standby awaiting a relay signal. Plug it in to a power strip, and when it shuts down, turn the power strip off. The mouse should then be dark.

the mouse uses its own power (battery), so the light won't go off, it just goes to sleep mode.

I've been wondering about this too...

The red LED on my Intellimouse Explorer, which is connected to the mobo via the ps2 connector won't turn off when system shutdown either 😕

But when it's connected to the USB port, the LED does got turned off.

Prefer to have the mouse connected to the ps2 port to save USB ports for other uses.

Can anyone pls enlighten us, thanks

Like I said - your computer is not wholly off. Plug it into a powerstrip and turn off the power. The mouse will go off too.

Thanks for your response corkyg...

But the LED only stayed on when the mouse is connected to the ps2 port...

When connected to the USB port, the LED does go off after the system shutdown.

Some mobos have jumpers (or it could be settings in the BIOS or both) to set a feature called Wake on Keyboard, Wake on Mouse etc. if you disable those jumpers (just the one for Wake on Mouse, of course), the light may go off.

ya, there is still power going through your mother board some times. I dont why, mine is the same way some times. is it a problem to have the light on?

With my old motherboard the light would come on when I pressed the button. Even thou the computer was off.

I am seeing the same behavior with my Logitech keyboard. The NUM LOCK and FUNC lights are lit even when I shut down the computer. Anyone else see this?

this is because your motherboard is still sending power to the devices. this is used to facilitate wake-on-* functionality. your motherboard should have an option to turn this off.

corkyg- modern atx computers are never "OFF" unless you unplug them. they are in a state of "soft-off" since the power supply is always sending power to the motherboard.

I had the same problem. My old logitech optical mouse was connected by serial port to the computer, it would always be on, when I switched it to USB, it would turn off.

On my Microsoft K/B i can still see the F-Lock light after I turn it off.

I'll try changing it in bios as soon as i'm finished here.

1. Remove the 2 rear pads from underneath the mouse and unscrew.
2. Cover led with something (not metallic of course, e.g. paper).
Done! Tail light will now be turned off permanently.

I used to have the led shorted on its board so it was really off, but after a while the mouse started having glitches. So today I applied the above rougher solution.

Wow 2005. I award you sir for Necro Thread of the year! Congratulations. You're cake will be presented outside of this thread.
I now wonder how many users in this thread are dead by now?

hahaha
It's not about participating in a conversation though but more like giving a solution to a problem no one managed to give for 10 years now! (given the fact that this is the most popular link in the search engine).
