Mouse lag problem

I just started having this problem yesterday. When I move my mouse cursor with nothing running program wise...to rule out overworked OS....my mouse lags for a second. It will move fine, but then just stop for a few seconds, then resume movements. I have been using the Microsoft Optical mouse for a little more than 2 years, never had a problem with it. I recently have gotten 2 increase in page file messages and was wondering if it could be that. I just installed my wireless router, but don't see how that has anything to do with this. Because I have had that installed a few days before. Could the page file changes do this? I restarted computer and had nothing running and it still did the lag. Or is the optical mouse going bad? I don't want to pull out the old roll balls. Thanks.

Corded or wireless mouse?
If it's ove 2 years old it may be going out, of course I still have an original ms optical corded mouse and it still works. But you can always pick up a logitech mx 500 or 700, or a newer ms optical 😉 the mx 500 I use right now is the best mouse I've ever had, it can be bought for about $30 now.

Its a corded mouse, Microsoft optical mouse, not the intellipoint, the grey one whatever. So you are saying that the lag would be cause or you have seen it cause the mouse to halt or freeze on screen? 2 year life span is pretty aweful. I am not looking for a corded mouse, if I were to buy anything I am looking for a wireless optical mouse.

did you try rebootign yoru system?
also, if you rule it down to your mouse, and it's still under warrenty (3 years) MS will replace it for free
