Mouse "lag" after fresh install of WinXP pro

My brother got a new hard drive so I went and installed XP pro w/sp2 onto the new drive. Did all the updates, etc.
In windows when opening different windows (my computer..., etc.) the mouse has a bit of delay.

I put his old hard drive back in (win 2000 pro) and there is no delay with the mouse.
Specs listed below. I know the system is a little dated but it ran perfectly in win2000

System ECS k7s5a
AMD 1600+ cpu
WD 200GB hd
Diamond Viper 770 ultra.

Any ideas what to do to get rid of the problem?

mhmm.. well.. I know sometimes I get problems with xp, I format once every 2 months or so, I have a 20 gig for strictly that usage, and my 60 gig for songs, programs (either diagnostics, installers, or non registry needed programs, ie doom 3, Warcraft 3 and some other prgs, and installers, like win amp, mozilla, msn, etc anything that wont run without a fresh install), all i can say is format the drive again, use some kind of strategy like I use, and hopefully it fixes the error. Bump too, if someone can help him in any other way.

this kinda happened to me. there was a huge slowdown when i would try to move windows around the screen. i changed the resolution and it was fine.

I've seen this problem before. A format should fix it.

A fresh format is not totally out of the question but I'd like to try some other things first.

I too thought about the XP installed graphics card drivers. I just didn't have time to research the best driver for this older vid card.
Anyone have any suggestions? I assume older detonator drivers, right?

If that doesn't work I will try to mess around with the resolution. I think it's 1024 x 768 and 75 or 85Hz now.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Same here. And I don't install any KB or mouse drivers, cordless or not.
