Hi, suddently in the last few days I have a few computer here at my work (winxp/inspiron4100 on a docking station) doing some weird funky thing. The mouse is moving up/down left/right on its own. I tried both USB and PS/2 mouse and still does it. I scan for virus and there is nothing/clean (using NAV Corporate ed 8.0). I never seen this happened, and from about 30 minutes ago 2 of our field user call me for the same reason !! Can somebody suggest what is going on, I've tried many different mouse (some are brand new), trackball, etc. Help !!!

Thanks

If the mouse itself is moving you are experiencing a prolonged earthquake.

Do you in fact mean that the arrow on the screen is moving without any input?

Take a peek into process list in Task Manager for weird processes, also look into msconfig startup tab for unknown apps.
Kill/uncheck and see what happens.
Making program which can move mouse is peace of cake and it wouldn't be detected as virus.

Same thing happens to me. Every once in a while my cursor moves up/down/across my screen. I think our IM Administrator is goofing on me but he says not.

Hi,

I know that if you're using a laptop with a touchpad and a PS/2 mouse (not USB) that you've connected after boot up, then interference between the two will cause the cursor to move. Solution is to create a hardware configuration with and without the PS/2 mouse, then select the appropriate one at bootup.

Problem arises because the mouse uses 4-byte information packets where as the touchpad uses 3-byte packets.

This may not be your problem, but I know that it is the bane of many an unwary laptop user!

Good luck,

Andy
