Mouse is going nuts on laptop

I was updating my friend's laptop with Win95 so I plugged a PS/2 mouse into the laptop PS/2 port (while the system was off). This worked fine but the mouse polling rate was low. I installed Logitech Mouseware to be able to use the scroll button and to make the mouse movement a little smoother. Once I installed Mouseware, however, the cursor started to move randomly around the screen clicking on everything whenever I touched the mouse. The trackball works fine but I'd really like to get this mouse working. When I have Mouseware detect other pointing devices, only the trackball is found. Is there something I need to do to get this mouse working? Thanks.

The first thing you need to do is go into BIOS and see what the laptop's options are. Most require a setting to kill the trackball or touchpad and use an external mouse.

Some older laptops (anything with a track ball and Win95 is "older&quot😉 cannot handle scroll mice. When they were built, scrollers hadn't been invented yet. Try a plain one in the PS/2 port.

I guess it's just too old then. I have a serial mouse that the laptop won't detect, but I don't have a plain PS/2 mouse. The mouse worked fine until I installed MouseWare. Thanks.
