MOUSE IN MY HOUSE! HELP!

Actually, possibly mice in my apartment... So we keep our apartment rather clean but during the black out we noticed the sound of the little bastards running around the kitchen.. One of them bumped into my best friend's foot! Freaking gross, I know! How do I get rid of it/them?!?!? We're heading over to home depot soon so what should we pick up? We figure that the mice were attracted to our building because the black out (that lasted almost 2 days for us) knocked out our building's incinerator and plumbing (electric pumps) so our building had lots of rotting garbage and raw sewage around... The mice probably climbed their way up through the heating vents - what's the best way to cover the wholes in the heater? We figure mosquito net attached with a hot glue gun would work - is there a better way? Also, what are the best kinda traps? Sticky ones or more lethal ones? Thanks for any advice guys!

Set up some mousetraps with peanut butter or cheese. Notify your landlord. Problem solved.

Good idea about the peanut butter.. My landlord is an asshole though... He refuses to do anything for us at all yet we don't complain since the rent is below market value and our lease is almost up.. I will complain to the management though.. Until then, off to home depot!

what kind of heater vents?
if forced air, some duct tape, and "Stuff" spray should work,
if water pipes,steel wool.

I'm not exactly sure how to tell.. I think they're water pipes (we hear the sound of steam and a slight banging noise sometimes during the winter).. So the steel wool - should I fill the opening from top to bottom with the stuff or just the bottom?

fill the hole, with the steel wool,so its tight, use a pen or something to push the steel wool in the hole
i think, you mean, where there is a hole in the floor, etc that the pipe goes thru?

the "Stuff " spray is good for around cold water pipes, but
i don't think its good for near hot pipes, like for radiators, baseboard heat,

fiberglass insulation will work, but the mice can eat thru that easier than yucky steel wool.

dollar store for steel wool,if they have any!

Tried that... Killed my parents and my computer is toast now too (using my laptop on Starbuck's WAP now) but I still see the mouse running around my apartment.. I'm going to see if I can track your I.P. and return the favor.. Tootles!

P.S. Thanks everyone else for their serious replies.. Getting some steel wool, glue traps, and some dcon just in case the buggers are still around when the weather gets cooler..

Bitch, moan, and document everything you do. If he doesn't assist with the mouse problem, you've got backing.

Yep those glue traps work and are cheap at your local Home Depot / Lowe's.

Haha - I once caught a HUGE rat in one of them. He was still alive after a day, and I had to put him out of his misery. But, our mouse problems were solved :p

When I was a kid in CA, my neighbor tried having an exterminator remove these rats from her house, but when the guy say them, it turned out that a nest of endangered kangaroo rats had moved into her attic, and he said that it was againt the law for him to disturb them

Never heard of kangaroo rats.. actually, they're kinda cute... Don't know if I'd have the guts to kill em myself..

I have a bit of experience with mice. The best is still the tried and true spring trap with peanut butter as bait. Works like a charm.

There's a mouse in my house, so I bought a cat
The cat ran away, cause now there's a rat
I'm on the attack with my baseball bat
That one rat brought many others back
All through my house I set up traps
It seem like the rats have a map
But nowadays I don't know how to act
So now I feed the rats crack
